Chaac is the Mayan god of rain, lightning, and storms — one of the most essential and widely worshipped deities in all of Mayan civilization. The Maya lived and died by rainfall. Every corn harvest, every cistern, every drinking vessel full of water was Chaac’s gift. His stone face appears on more Mayan temples than almost any other deity. He has the long hooked nose, the axe that is lightning, and the voice that is thunder.
